My research focuses on how epigenetic modification regulates gene expression at both transcriptional and translational levels. Particularly, I focus on the biological functions of ribosomal protein methylation, a key mechanism of our discovered “epigenetic-like regulation at translation”, which selectively modulates mRNA translation via RNA motif. I propose the concept of “cross-layer epigenetics regulation,” integrating information flow between transcription and translation. Using unique animal and disease models and ribosome-based analyses, our work reveals a hidden regulatory dimension in cellular adaptation, disease, and evolution.
