Dr. Zheng-Jiang Zhu is interested in advancing mass spectrometry–based metabolomics to achieve comprehensive and quantitative views of cellular metabolism across biological scales. His group develops innovative computational and analytical platforms, with a particular emphasis on ion mobility–resolved single-cell metabolomics. By pushing the boundaries of sensitivity, throughput, and coverage, they enable deep metabolic profiling at the level of individual cells. Integrating data-driven and knowledge-guided strategies, their work illuminates the largely unexplored landscape of unknown metabolites. In parallel, they develop stable-isotope tracing approaches to capture metabolic dynamics. Together, these efforts seek to uncover metabolic principles underlying human diseases, bridging large-scale profiling with mechanistic understanding.
