An Institute without Walls
Shanghai Academy of Natural Sciences (SANS), founded in 2024 and based in Shanghai, is a nonprofit research institute “without walls” and with no physical laboratories of its own. We are dedicated to supporting leading scientists, advancing original basic research, and fostering a hub for scientific innovation.
SANS introduces new models and mechanisms to identify and support scientists with original talent for frontier, pioneering, groundbreaking, and disruptive basic research. We are fostering transformation and building a culture that values unconventional paths, the courage to tackle grand challenges, and a spirit of dedicated inquiry.
