Wanbin Zhang, K. C. Wong Chair Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, focuses on the fundamental and applied research in the field of asymmetric catalysis. He developed a series of novel chiral ligands or catalysts and highly efficient asymmetric catalytic systems based on angle control and synergistic promotion strategies. lmportantly, key technological breakthroughs have been achieved for the industrial synthesis of several important chiral compounds, such as the fragrance including Menthol, Carvone and Camphorenal, antimalarial drug Artemisinin, anti-tuberculosis drug Bedaquiline, anti-epileptic drug Brivaracetam, and antiviral drug Remdesivir. And six important chiral drugs and fragrances have achieved industrial production via asymmetric catalysis.
